Tell it to Your Lawyer

New York, NY – On May 1st during the March from Union Square to Wall Street, I decide to leave the march to use the bathroom. After my bathroom break, upon my return I tried to rejoin the march via an opening where the barricades were moveable, a cop stopped me and I said to him, ” I want to rejoin the march.”

“Its closed now,” the cop replied,

“But its clearly an access point and its my constitutional right to join the march, you are violating my 1st amendment by not letting me back into the march,” I said.

The cop replied, “Tell it to your lawyer!”

One Response to “Tell it to Your Lawyer”

  1. Fateh says:

There seems to be an ideological wedge (propoganda, fear) driven into the mind of cops & officials that #1) every “occupier” is a demon of some sort, with a nefarious goal. #2) that we are anarchist street kids with rich parents and trust funds. #3) that we all have lawyers in our pockets and watching our every action… While we know the truth could not be farther from that, what we do need to cultivate is a language and approach that diffuses those dialogue-killing assumptions. What we need is a type of intervention that reaches down to the find the most common level: (ie. we are humans who are unhappy at the state of affairs, and we are looking for a better future for everyone, even if we don’t know what that is, we know what we have now, isn’t it!)…

Our communication must be geared in a way to relate that in summary with “blockheads” to make “them” see things differently. It’s as simple as making them understand, hey, they aren’t happy, either! And they need to do something to change their lives… And then… suddenly… THEY are US! :))
